Hoot Review

Hey! This is John Paul's blog about Hoot. It'd will be a review and thoughts about what happen at the book and the things I think about every single scenario. :) Alright,  let's start.
Also, if you want a trailer of it(the movie) click here ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgT_xT587MY
Chapter 1
**Hoot is about a kid, Roy Eberhardt, who moved from Montana to Florida. As Roy transfer from his school at Montana to a school at Florida, which is Trace Middle School, he develops a curiosity over a guy with blonde hair, and always runs in his bare feet when Roy goes to school every morning. Also, Dana Matherson is introduced in the first Chapter where he plays the role of a bully who always hurts Roy in different ways.
**Also, in the first chapter, Officer Delinko is in a case that involves someone trying to vandalize a future site for another Mother Paula's All-American Pancake House. He's in search of who is trying to vandalize the place and why he or she tries to give people a hard time fixing the place for Mother Paula's All-American Pancake House.
*At the beginning, I think it's very unusual for a new kid in town to be curious about a guy who he barely knows. I say, it's very weird of Roy to make time for himself and search who the guy is. Want to see some other video? Here ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEmdJAp_M8k&NR=1
 Chapter 2
**As Roy's searching for the mysterious guy continues on, he didn't show up for the next three days... As Roy is about to give up, he then spots him and started to head out of the bus. As he was about to leave, Dana grabbed him from behind and started choking him. In desperation of pursuit of the mysterious guy he punched Dana right in the nose and broke it. He then started his pursuit for the mysterious guy until he gets hit with a golf ball and gets unconscious. He finds himself back at school and in the principal office where he was ordered to right a formal apology letter to Dana about what he did.
**Also, at lunch a blonde tall girl demanded him to sit by him. Not for some flirting though. :) She wanted to know why he was chasing after the blonde guy. She then seemed to be irritated of what Roy had been trying to do and told him to mind his own business.
*At this chapter Roy had been independent and fought for what he's afraid of. I think Roy did the right thing of punching Dana because of his inappropriate actions towards the other students. Also, I think it is totally wrong for the Principal to just give Roy punishment(s) and didn't decide to get more proof of what really happened.
Chapter 3
**In Chapter 3, Roy told his parents about what happened in the school bus and what the principal told him to do. His dad seemed to be proud of him standing up against Dana and punching him right in the nose and he wasn't angry of what he did. Although, he was angry that Roy gets punishment(s) while Dana didn't get to be accused of anything.
**Also the Police Captain is worried about who the vandals might be and what they're up to. He decided that to send a Police Patrol their every hour and check who might be vandalizing the whole place. He also talked about who might be the people behind the whole incident.
*For Roy and his Dad, I can see a very good connection between them. I thought of this because if your son or daughter gets in trouble you don't expect your parents to be proud and happy about it. In this situation, Roy's dad was proud of him. Its very surprising.
Chapter 4
**At the start, Roy can't be allowed to get out the house for the whole weekend just to make sure his fine. He's also afraid of encountering Dana again at school but he was no where in sight. Garrett, also a new student told him that students have been talking about him and his actions towards Dana. That his a tough guy now and it definitely bothered Roy. Also, he realizes he can't hide from Dana and Beatrice(the tall blonde girl) forever. He realizes that he has to give the apology letter soon and and Beatrice "The Bear" soon.
**As Officer Delinko starts his Patrol for in search of the vandals he starts to fall asleep early in the morning. When he woke up, everything inside the car was dark. He wondered if he slept through the day but as he realizes someone has sprayed black paint all over his window and the vandalism had been made again.
**When he gave Dana's mom the letter, her mom was amused that "a little twerp" like Roy broke Dana's nose. They then started to fight over the apology letter Roy gave. As for Beatrice, Roy apologizes for what ever he did to her and next time, she should just tell Roy the problem and work it out.
*I say Officer Delinko should put much more  effort on his job to become a detective, also, Dana Matherson has a very very very interesting family!!! (Don't you agree??) and as for Roy, he's much tougher than I thought he would be, standing up for two of the "bullies" in Trace Middle.
Chapter 5
**Roy decides to go for a ride and find/retrace where he had chased the running guy. When he saw the tree where he saw the guy for the last time, he entered the forest. As he keeps going he saw three bags and wondered what's in it. He then opened it and when he got to the third one and dumped everything, 9 snakes slittered in his legs. A voice from behind told him not to move. Also, afterwards he told him to slowly move backwards. When he was in reach, the mysterious guy holded him and wrap a hood around his head. He told him that he can't be there and that he wouldn't hurt him aslong as he leaves the place immidiately, and as he said Roy did.
*It was very interesting to know that Roy. . . or "cowgirl" (haha. people call him that but his not even a girl. . . wierd) is experienced about snakes. Also, if he hadn't done what he did.. following the mysterious guy, he would have been BADLY hurt. Lucky guy. :)
Chapter 6
**At breakfast, Roy's father read a newspaper about how Officer Delinko got his police car vandalized
**As for Officer Delinko, he can't patrol for quite a while and can only use his police car to go home and to work. He thanked the Police Captain for now giving his name away to the public because it can affect everthing that will come to his life. Especially being a dectective
*I think it's very lucky of Officer Delinko to have a pleasant Captain and not give his name away in public and be safe. Don't you think? It could have hurt him big time!
Chapter 7
**Beatrice took Roy's bike and told him to go for a ride. They then went to an old panel truck and asked what he has in the shoe box. Roy told her that it was shoes for a kid he met. Beatrice made a deal that if she gives the shoes to the running guy, Roy has to stop spying and chasing over the running guy. Beatrice then told him that he was her brother.
**After a long day, Officer Delinko went to go home, on the way, on the radio, it says that a missing boy, Roy is suppose to be home. Officer Delinko saw him somewhere and gave him a lift home. As they arrive, Roy said thank you and Officer Delinko asked for a letter that says he got Roy home. He thought it would be a good thing to be in his permanent file and get his promotion
*At this time of the story, it was really shocking ... to know that the running guy is Beatrice's stepbrother. Also, it was smart of Officer Delinko to ask for a letter telling that he had helped on finding Roy and increase his chance of being promoted and being a detective. (Smart Guy.. Smart Guy!) Hahaha. Don't you agree??

  1. John Paul, you make observations about how Roy is changing throughout the story. The questions that you're asking make the blog interesting, as it's much more than a summary but your thinking along the way. I wonder if Mullet Fingers (the barefooted boy) will wear the shoes that Roy got for him? And will Roy keep his promise of not bothering Beatrice's step brother again?
    Great blog design and ideas!

  2. Thanks Mr. Hull, I really tried my best to make it interesting. Well, a prediction I can make is that "Mullet Fingers" might not wear the shoes because he's used to running in bare feet, and his much faster. As for Roy, I know he will continue to figure out and spy on Beatrice's brother. I said this because curiosity can't be controlled, he wondered why he even cared about "Mullet Finger" and even he got in trouble because of him, he still keeps on going, trying to figure out how he's life is and what he does. I will do my best to make it better! Thank you!

  3. The YouTube video clips are a great addition to your creative chapter responses John Paul. I like the one about the actors/actresses in the movie, Hoot. The characters have great personalities that I'm sure will match well with the curious and adventurous characters in the book. I think your predictions are right on, John Paul. I mean who wouldn't want to find out more about a kid who gets away with such outrageous stunts in the face of justice.

  4. John Paul, your blog was awesome. The youtube clips actually give you a mental image as you're reading the books of the appearance and personality of the characters in it. I wish I would've thought about that...well then again the school wouldn't let us access youtube. ): But smart thinking.

Speaking of smart thinking...when you referred to Officer David Delinko as a smart guy. I would've disagreed because truly he's only trying to promote himself off desk duty and on his way into becoming his life long dream as a detective. But I like your perspective of that, sorry for stating my opinion ):

Your chapters are very well organized. Good job! :D You placed great effort into this, and I don't really have that much of a critique except for the interesting owl background with the Photoshopped eyes. Sorry, it freaked me out the first time I opened up the blog. Well I hope you can keep continuing to blog about the next chapters, especially the epilogue because that was a thriller. Happy reading ^^!
